Sorry people out there, I'm becoming more and more lazy... More and more busy... Entering the working society sure changes a lot of things in you... Sometimes I feel so lifeless, everyday just work and work... Spending most of my time in the office, reading emails, look at the statistics, doing slot maintenance and such....
Oh by the way, I'm currently working in Pacific International Lines (PIL) as a Trade Assistant, for around 1 year+... The first thought everyone who hears this position would be, doing trading??? Nope, I don't do trading... Erm... My job is to monitor a particular trade/service lane... Previously I was doing Asia-South Africa Service (ASA) and got transferred to South Africa, South America Service (SSA) due to some turnover of staffs in my department... A liner trade/service will consist of several container ships calling major ports at regular basis, weekly or fortnightly etc...
My duties are compilation and maintenance of trade statistics and reports
... I have to also liaise with agents and customers on freight rates, assist in slot management and provide support for data maintenance. Let me explain one of the most important aspect in my job. Slot management means ensuring the vessels sail full from the last port, which is Singapore for me, both in TEUs and tonnage... For those we don't understand, TEU means Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit... So a standard 20-foot long shipping container would meant one TEU and so a standard 40-foot long shipping container would mean two TEUs or often known as one FEU... Sounds chim eh??? While Tonnage is a measure of the volume or cargo volume of a ship, which is used in reference to the weight of a ship's cargo... I have to also ensure that every port fulfills their allocation, and the reasons why they did not... Quoting rates is also part of my job but I didn't touch on that much since I don't like it... I started to hate marketing, sales, customer service more and more... It just feels like so evil and fake, people must go around apple polishing others just for the sake of money... When a certain market is having high demands, people increase the price in order to maximize their profits... For example, the shortage of rice situation recently, truckers/shippers increase their rates and hence resulting in an increase on the overall price for rice...
I'm currently planning for further studies... Intend to study full time on Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment (Animation) in SAE Singapore but was told that my partial colorblindness of red and green might affect me in my future job prospects... I cannot apply for jobs which might require me to do some coloring... I was caught in a dilemma... Moreover the school fee is S$31,000 and I am so poor... However, the thought of my job being something which I would have to spend many years with, made me decide that I should find something of my interest... I don't want to be somebody who goes to work everyday reluctantly and counting down to the end of work... I want a job that would make me always look forward to the start of the another day... A job that would motivate me and give me satisfaction (满足感) for everything I've done...
Now that I have decided to take this course, I would have to take part time jobs in order to pay up the study loan... It will be tough and I hope I will be glad that I made this choice with no regrets... With me also intending to learn driving, I think I will have a very busy schedule... A hectic life I shall lead...
